Scipio Township is located immediately west and southwest of LaPorte along IN-2 and IN-39. Organized in 1954, STVFD includes 22 volunteer members who respond to 150+ calls each year from their 2 stations. STVFD provides Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to 3,000 residents and 32 square miles. Their mixed industrial, residential and rural district includes the Town of Pinola, the LaPorte County Fairgrounds, LaPorte County Home, Juvenile Detention Center and 4 state and county highways.
